Project Description
When one of the world’s most specialized medical technology companies needed to upgrade the roofing systems at its New Jersey facility, Stryker Corp. turned to Tri-State Commercial Roofing Corp to complete the project. This installation presented many unique challenges, one of which was to keep Stryker’s sprawling 38-acre campus and multiple buildings accessible to employees and visitors at all times. Another challenge to contend with was that roof noise was prohibited above certain sections of the building due to the many surgeons coming from around the world to attend seminars at this campus. To work around this, Tri-State employed fully adhered and mechanically attached systems, each tailored to meet client needs and rigorous performance standards. To meet these standards, all roof assemblies were engineered and approved through Factory Mutual RoofNav® testing, exceeding the 165 PSF wind uplift requirements. The project was split into three different phases, Main Roof I, Main Roof II, and the HSC Roof. Over Main Roof I, Tri-State installed a fully adhered Sarnafil® .060 Fire-Resistant Feltback PVC system using Sarnacol® OM low-rise adhesive. Over Main Roof II, Sarnafil® S327 .060 reinforced PVC membrane was installed over Sarnatherm® HD using RhinoBond technology. Lastly, over the HSC building, approximately 25,000 square feet of roofing were upgraded by employing the same Sarnafil® S327 system that we used at Main Roof ll.
Each roof area was detailed with new three-piece Kynar 500® coated edge metals, termination bars, and precision counterflashings, ensuring long-term protection in line with Sika Sarnafil’s 20-year NDL (No Dollar Limit) warranty. Tri-State maintained rigorous quality control throughout the project. As a licensed Sarnafil contractor, all installers were trained to manufacturer standards, and the team provided daily photo-documented progress reports to Stryker. Dedicated supervision — including a project supervisor, foreman, and safety manager — ensured that the work was executed with the highest levels of safety and professionalism. Equally as important, Tri-State completed the project without disrupting Stryker’s daily operations. Employees, visitors, and facility managers experienced no interruptions while the roofing systems above them were being upgraded.
